Body Beast: Second Attempt – How I feel SO FAR
A while back, I decided that it was time for me to give Body Beast a shot. And, as many of you have seen, I had a terrible experience! Many of you were driven to this blog because you actually searched for things like “Body Beast Negative Review” or “Body Beast Women,” and you came across this old blog, where I basically RIPPED Body Beast apart at the seams. And even though I have gone back an added a bright red disclaimer to that post, I still get questions asking me if Body Beast is still a “bad” program to try, especially if you’re a female. Well, if you read the disclaimer at the very top of the post, if you follow me on Facebook or on Instagram, or if you are receiving my emails from the Kickstart 7 program, you know that since that original review, a lot has changed with the Body Beast program itself (including many of the issues I had hoped would change!) and I did decide to give it a second shot. So I want to give an updated review once my journey is over, but until then, I want to let you all know how I’m feeling RIGHT NOW.
I began Body Beast just short of 3 weeks ago. I decided to start it up because I knew that in order for me to get my metabolism firing hot again, I needed to add more muscle. I am a self-admitted “cardio addict,” and since my initial weight loss of about 85 lbs mainly came from cardio exercise, it has always been what makes me feel my best. Well, the thing is, as you get more fit, the more cardio you do, the more metabolically efficient you become – and that’s NOT what we want! We want our metabolisms to have to WORK, because when they WORK, that’s when the fat gets burned and the body changes. Cardio, though it “burns a lot of calories,” doesn’t help our bodies as much in the long run because our bodies adapt to that stress, therefore making it easier, and making our bodies not have to work as hard. See what I mean? So after years of “cardio heavy” programs, my metabolism slowed down. It got to the point where I thought I had major thyroid problems! (Turns out I’m just “borderline,” and now I’m much more meticulous about my daily diet and supplementation regimen…but that’s another story for another day.) I realized that in order for me to fire my metabolism back up, especially now that I’m not a “young kid” anymore, I needed to start adding MUSCLE. I wondered if giving Body Beast a shot was a good idea after my last review, and honestly, I was a little scared. Thankfully, this little moment of clarity for my workouts happened just as The Master’s Hammer & Chisel was released. It was like fate or something. I took on that program with MAJOR motivation, and you know what – it was incredible. As I suspected, doing MORE weight training and LESS cardio flipped a switch in my body and BAM, I was back on track! Lifting WAS my answer! So I decided that yes, I would give Body Beast a second shot. Of course, I was super nervous that the same thing would happen AGAIN that happened the first time.
ENTER BEACHBODY ON DEMAND. One day while sitting at work, I decided that it was probably a good idea to try to calculate my numbers again to see if maybe I did it wrong the first time around. So I logged into “BOD” and looked at the pdf of the materials. I started to calculate my numbers…and…wait a minute, something is different. There is a calculation specifically for females. This is no longer a “one size fits both genders” calculation! As you know, that was one of my BIGGEST problems with Body Beast the first time around. When I did the calculations for MY BODY, a short, somewhat-lean, rather fit FEMALE, I saw that this new formula for WOMEN and THEIR specific metabolism had me at a more realistic calorie level! With my first attempt, Body Beast recommended I should eat around 2,200 calories per day. Given my fitness background and education, I knew that for my body, that just wasn’t right. But I gave it a go, because, hey, I had to “bulk,” right? Well, I felt like crap, felt lethargic, and all I did was gain…and not in a good way. But now, with this attempt, Body Beast puts me in the 1,800 calorie range. That is SO MUCH MORE realistic and doable than before! 1,800 is STILL more than I normally eat – which is what I need – but it’s still in a realistic range for someone like me, at my size and as a woman, to add a little bit of muscle mass without gaining a major gut. Following that recommendation and the “Body Beast Lean” schedule, I was READY!
So as of today, I have completed two, almost three full weeks of the “Build” phase of Body Beast. I am following this program to a “T.” The only change I have made is that I swap out the “Beast Cardio” workout for a different cardio routine. That one just doesn’t do it for me. As a former cardio addict, my tolerance for cardio is high, so in order for me to get a good cardio workout, I have to choose a different routine. So I sub in TurboFire, Insanity, COMBAT, whatever cardio workout I feel will “hit the spot” for that day. Outside of that, I am doing every workout as written, lifting heavier than ever, and following the nutrition plan like my life depends on it.
So how am I feeling? One word: INCREDIBLE!
Seriously. I posted this picture on Instagram last night for a totally non-fitness reason, and I was BLOWN AWAY. I have never seen my body look this way – my figure is slimming down, my shoulders are starting to grow, my arms are showing some definition, my legs are solid, my midsection has no little “roll” at the waist band of even my dress pants…it’s amazing. Again, I’m not even three full weeks into this program, and I’m already seeing visible results. That’s CRAZY! When I did Body Beast the first time, it took me until the second phase to even feel a LITTLE BIT different – and it wasn’t in the good way! The last time I saw results this quickly was when I first started to lose weight. You know, when the weight just falls off of you because you’re “doing something instead of sitting on your butt all day?” Yeah, it’s like that. I am literally in awe of how my body is responding. The changes in the Body Beast program since I attempted it the first time have been nothing short of SPOT ON. The workouts were not the problem – the lack of female friendly calculations was the HUGE issue. And now, following these accurate calculations, I’m seeing the results I was expecting. I don’t feel “lost” or like I have to “guess” if what I’m doing is right – I’m following the plan.
And it’s working.
One more week (give or take) of the Build Phase, and then it’s on to BULK – which, scary as it seems, is already exciting me! Can’t wait to update you during THAT phase! I just have to remind myself that a little “fluff” around the body during those few weeks is not only normal, but necessary.
So if you’re thinking of trying Body Beast, specifically if you are female, I ENCOURAGE YOU TO DO IT! Adding muscle to your body has so many more benefits than just the aesthetics. If you want to burn off more fat, even while you sleep (because who doesn’t want to do that?!) lift. Lift heavy. Eat the right amount of food. Work your body like a beast! The changes in this program will give you the jaw-dropping results you were hoping for – and you’ll feel incredible! I know I already do! So just go for it! Try Body Beast today! And to get your BEST results, try it with Shakeology, try it with the Body Beast supplement line OR try it and pick up the Beachbody Performance line for even more insane results!
